Our Zinnia’s are in the ground and we are hoping they will flower before the last school day. While we were in the throws of planting… some friends began investigating the dirt/soil we were stirring up. We decided to go on a soil search. With buckets, shovels, strainers in hand we began digging up the soil in different places on campus. Some of our girls were reluctant at first but then joined in. The girls sorted, sifted and examined to their hearts content.
Hutchison Girls are here to stay… We are going to save the day!!!
The girls began to chat and talk about saving the day several weeks ago. I soon asked what saving the day meant to them. Most were really not quite sure but they said, ”PJ Masks always saves the day” The girls proceeded to tell me all about Gekko, Owlette and Catboy. These discoveries led me to the conclusion that these characters are “super hero kids”. We began talking about traits of super heroes:
Again I asked,” But what do they do?” “ You know…they just save the day” I wonder how they do that?
The girls have had fun just wearing capes and masks but these dress up props are prompting us to think about how we treat people and what we can do to help spread kindness and be thoughtful. The girls have been thinking together and solving problems:
We will be continuing to “save the day” through May and beyond!!!
If you plant a seed of exploration, in a very short time the fruits of exploration will grow and grow and grow and they are very, very contagious...our tactile table is full of sand, potting soil, tiny creatures, flowers, and containers. The first few days were full of touching the mixture and examining the flowers…a few conversations heard were:
Beautiful…I wonder if you could draw it. We placed all the materials on the table and one by one the girls came over and wanted to join in.
Reflection: I am amazed how well these girls are making connections and teaching each other about flowers, bees, butterflies, and worms... They inspire me!!
