The girls began a discovery of faces with their own. They are all fascinated with the image they see in the mirror and have created their own faces with oil pastels, paying close attention to details such as skin shades, eyes, nose, mouth, eyebrows, eyelashes and the black pupils we all have which has been fascinating to them. The girls enjoy exploring art through different media and they are in the process of capturing their images with tempera paint at the art easel. This investigation of faces opens a new portal where they can begin to dig deeper and ponder the likes and differences among themselves. Pictures were taken and graphs’ have been constructed for comparison of eye and hair color. These features were duplicated and used at a center for explorations of funny faces. The focus of many centers this week has been interesting explorations of all kinds of faces....
We began our exploration on identifying emotions by using a mirror to draw dramatic self-portraits.When our girls enter our room….how they feel is “written all over their face”. Observing these expressions and acting on how to react to the way a person feels is an important milestone for children. They begin to recognize how people feel and are learning how to react and at times give comfort to friends and family… good practice for all of us. We again pulled out our mirrors and identified emotions, took pictures, and used thinking pens to create pictures of how they feel.
