We have had so much fun reading lots of different versions of the familiar old tale of the Gingerbread Man! I wish you could see the girls on the edge of their seats.....or letters....to find out if the Gingerbread Man gets eaten in the end or if he maybe outsmarts that old fox! The girls have learned about titles, authors, and illustrators. They are beginning to understand what characters are and that stories have a beginning, a middle, and an end. They are also beginning to see that sometimes there is a "bad guy" who causes problems and the hero has to save the day! The girls explored the idea of comparing and contrasting different stories and breaking down the plot! Did you know your girls could do all that?!?
A few comments along the way...
Where are they?
Miss Jennifer, do you know where the gingerbread men went?
I'm so glad we found our gingerbread!
I want to eat them!
Mrs. Rainer, were we the fox?
I'm telling my grandmother and my mommy that gingerbread mans can walk!
The girls decorated gingerbread girls and retold their story....with some great illustrations!
Reflection: I love introducing the girls to lots of Gingerbread Man stories. I'm amazed that they can remember every detail of each story. They love to tell about the different characters and how each story ended. They loved making up their very own ending and they especially loved eating them! Ha! Me, too! This is a wonderful literacy activity - exploring elements of writing and then doing a little writing and illustrating of their own!
