In our author study of Lois Ehlert we read her darling book, Planting a Rainbow! After spring break we finally got to plant OUR rainbow! The girls planted red zinnias, orange zinnias, yellow zinnias, green zinnias, and purple zinnias. We planted them in Mrs. Riddle’s classroom and will transplant them later in the spring when they get a little bigger! Wow! They came up fast! So exciting!
Pieces of our conversation while we were planting. These girls are really observant and smart! WOW!
Like a mulch chip
Smells like dirt
We’re covering the seeds with soil
Tucking them in
Orange comes next in the rainbow
Will the seeds look different?!? Let's make an hypothesis...do you know what that is?
An idea you can test
Looks different! - a little bit different
It looks like a big
It looks orange
It’s long and curly
Every seed is a little different
Yellow is next in the rainbow
My seed is pointy
This one is bigger
Like a twisted leaf
They look the same
Mines kinda white
What do these seeds need to grow?
Soil and water and sun
The rain comes from the sky usually the spray will water them too
I’m so excited to spray with water
I think the seeds will bloom
They’re sucking up the water like this....sliuckkkkkk
Please grow! Keep growing! Grow! Grow! Grow!
Day 9 and 10...
