After reading Bear Shadow by Frank Asch, we went on a hunt for our own shadows outside. We laughed about our shadows following us EVERYWHERE and that if you stayed in the sun you just could not get away from it! Is there a place you can go where you cannot see your shadow? What does a shadow need to BE a shadow? Can you always see your shadow? Is it always in the same place? We had a lot of fun investigating these things.
Here are some of their observations...
We need the sun to be sunny to see our shadows.
Shadows do the same thing we do.
When we walk to lunch our shadow is beside us.
You can only get away from your shadow in the shade.
You can't see your shadow on a cloudy day.
Sometimes your shadow is in front and sometimes it's behind you.
Sometimes you can hide from your shadow in the trees.
If you do something your shadow does the same thing.
Shadows follow you everywhere.
Your shadow is behind you sometimes.
