Many of the math skills we explore and discover in pre-k are more than just counting and writing numbers, although those are important skills to understand. The girls count the days of each month. They count the number of napkins we need for snack. They count the letters on the carpet. We want to make counting fun and meaningful. The girls are also learning to make predictions with numbers. In our investigation of a pumpkin, they made predictions about how many lines were on the pumpkins and how many seeds might be inside. They are learning the difference between more and less and even that 100 is more than 1o. Who knew that so much math could happen with just a peek inside a pumpkin!
