Our girls have been reading books about markets that you go to to buy food and became interested in what else you do at a farmer's market. Many of the girls had been with their parents to select a pumpkin or to select food for their home. They wondered if we could make our own market. Our first step was to draw, color and cut out what we would like to see at a market. We used this as a backdrop for our room's market.
Our next step was to interview each girl on what they wanted to shop for at the market and these are their responses:
I want to buy corn and apples.
I like to go because I like food, especially oranges and pumpkins.
I like to go to the market because it has "super many" foods.
I like to go to buy beets because we drink the juice.
I like to go to the market to play with friends and buy bananas and apples.
I like to go to buy pumpkin for pumpkin pie.
I have never been to a market before but would like to buy food.
I want to buy pumpkins for our porch.
I like to go to the market wheln we need carrots.
Our next step was to make food out of clay and paint it for our market. We have used all the foods you sent from home also .
The girls had the most fun with the cash register and writing tickets and exchanging money for the items they sold. We learned about all the different vegetables and fruits that were in our market and how they were grown before they came to us.
Thanks to everyone who shared with us to make our market fun and teachable.!
Here are our girls as they came into the class this morning. They were all so happy and excited about the day. HAPPY HALLOWEEN to all!
