Mrs. Burt & Mrs. Clanton
We have had several opportunities to observe rainbows the last few days both at home and at school. These observations led the girls into a discussion about rainbows and they wanted to learn more. We researched and know that the rainbow has 7 colors and it is only in the sky when it is raining and the sun is shining at the same time. Then they were interested in making rainbows which each girl made her own and then they wanted to make a class project of making a rainbow. Thanks to all of you who sent in things we could use on our rainbow. We painted the rainbow first on large paper, then sorted the colors of the things they had brought in and finally placed it on our painted rainbow. The drawing of our rainbow also went with the introduction of curved lines. They can tell you the colors of the rainbow in the order that they learned them.
Skills introduced during our study of rainbows and our project work:
fine motor skills
sorting and classifying colors and objects
collaboration with friends
Curved lines were introduced this week to go along with the straight lines we had already being working with. The girls enjoyed making letters of the alphabet and the beginning letter of their name.
Skills introduced : comparison, observation, recalling and letter recognition
Have a great weekend!
