As our class has been planting flowers and checking on them each day the girls had some questions that we tried to answer this week.
Question Asked: What makes the soil healthy?
How does it get that way?
Many of the girls are familiar with gardening from their experiences with their parents and grandparents at home so they all contributed with remarks such as fertilizer, coffee and spices. This led us to talk about the bugs that like to eat in our gardens and how we prevent bugs from eating everything. This led us to discuss that worms live in the gardens and that they are good because they eat the bugs that eat the plants in our garden. So this week in our tactile center we have worms. The girls have loved watching them and picking them up with the pinchers without SCREAMING. We learned about the parts of the insect and the girls can sing you a cute song about the head, thorax and abdomen.
These are some of the centers we worked in this week and the skills learned-
Observation, creativity, small motor with cutting and glueing
Our flower shop is designing, creativity and sharing.
Our light table is investigating and observation.
Painting our bugs with recall information and small motor skills.
Lego building is a skyscraper with imagination, creativity and collaboration.
