",,The girls have loved brainstorming about the "deep blue sea' and we have many fun and interesting projects and activities going on in the classroom! The story "The Tickle Octopus", by Audrey and Don Wood, is a story about a grumpy family that just can't seem to laugh and have fun. That is, until, the tickle octopus reaches out with his eight arms and begins to tickle everyone and things begin to get really silly and happy! The story inspired us to write our own Tickle Octopus stories and get out the clay to make our own Tickle Octopus! Since these two activities are taking a while, the girls will be bringing this project home next week.
Our next activity is a collaborative project with all three classes of Pre-K. As a group, we are painting large canvases with colors the girls thought most reflected the colors they saw in the ocean:blue, green and white. As we played on the playground, the girls were taking turns in small groups to paint the ocean as they see it! We will continue to add "layers" of paint and other materials to create a beautiful ocean look. We are not quite sure what they will look like in the end, but the girls are loving the creativity and working together!
We also went to the library to visit the beautiful fish tank they have loved watching each week during our library time. They were very quiet as they drew with pens what they were seeing. (the fish hide if they hear a lot of noise and the girls quietly did their drawings so the fish would appear). These drawings will now be colored with oil pastels and water colored with a blue wash and we are excited to see how they are going to turn out.
All of these activities are requiring lots of thought and concentration, fine motor development, working collaboratively with classmates and lots of creativity and critical thinking skills going on! Enjoy the pictures we are capturing as they work and discover "Way Down Under In The Deep Blue Sea!"
