We are so glad to see our girls back from fall break, and hope everyone had a restful, happy, and relaxing time away from school. As we begin our second quarter with the girls , we realize how much they continue to grow and learn. We have been comparing night and day and talking quite a bit about our routines and what happens during those routines, whether they are morning or night routines. When thinking of the night time and the moon and stars these last two weeks, the girls found a huge basket of nocturnal animals that quickly led to a discussion about these animals and how they seemed to be "hurt" because of all the bandages that covered them. The girls wanted to take care of these nocturnal friends and decided the best way to do this was to have an animal clinic or hospital where they would get some good care and be ready to return to their night time activities! Thus, the "Night Time Animal Hospital and Clinic" was open, complete with all the necessary instruments the girls needed to "nurse"the animals of the night back to good health! They are having lots of fun in the dramatic play area of the classroom!
We also introduced several new centers to support math skills of one to one correspondence of numbers 1-5, creating a two part pattern, and continued growth of letter and number recognition. We continue to refine cutting and fine motor skills, recognition of shapes and tracing shapes, and writng numbers 1-5 .Drawing a picture of ourselves each month continues to help the girls add maturity to their pictures, and should be a great documentation of how they are learning to add more detail and accuracy each month to these drawings.
