Christmas is a perfect time of year to introduce our Pre-k study of our five senses. The smell of our Christmas tree, the tasting of delicious holiday cookies, hearing the sound of jingle bells ringing and beautiful Christmas music, touching and feeling the prickly Christmas tree, the sticky candy cane or our soft, cuddly Christmas stuffed animals, all make our senses come alive during this holiday time. This week the girls have enjoyed exploring our senses and how they tell us what is going on in our world at every moment of each day. They are connecting that what they don't see they can hear, what they don't see cooking they can smell, and their sense of touch gives then a very clear sensation as to how something feels. as one student said,"if we did'nt have our sense of taste, everything would taste the same"! When another classmate picked up a pine cone she said,"this is so pricky'! With our senses, we all learn and discover the world around us. Next week, our study will continue with more discovery about our sense of smell and taste as we create a gingerbread girls, taste gingerbread cookies, and play with gingerbread playdough!
