We enjoyed a beautiful day at the farm where the girls had a chance to see, feel, smell, and taste (if they chose to) the many plants and flowers that are growing there. They saw the beautiful snapdragons and got to pick blue corn flowers which Mrs. Riddle let them bring back to the classroom. They saw fresh kale, swiss chard and mint growing and loved smelling the mint! And the lemon basil was delightful with the wonderful smell of lemon. A few weeks ago we had planted pumpkin seeds in the classroom and the girls got to see how they had sprouted but were not quite ready to plant in the ground. Mrs. Riddle promised they would be ready to see this fall when the girls were in JK. A wonderful experience to understand the growing cycle and have this hands on opportunity. Our girls planted corn after they were shown how to dig a hole with their finger, drop the corn seed in the hole and then cover it back up so it then could root and grow. The girls realized that they then needed to water their planted seeds and with that, Mrs. Riddle turned on the farm sprinklers and the girls absolutely loved it! We are very fortunate to have our own working farm at Hutchison. It adds the final touch of a well rounded and diverse opportunity for the girls to experience this amazing cycle of planting, growing, and harvesting the fresh flowers, vegetables, and herbs they consume and enjoy in everyday life. "Thanks" Mrs. Riddle for a fun morning and teaching us so many things about our farm!!
Lastly, thanks to each mom for spending the morning with your daughter at our special event. Time is so short, they are growing up so fast, and these are the special times with your daughters that will always be remembered. Thank you!
